Kham, East Tibet

by MyTravel on March 19, 2008

The news was shocking! The ticket agent at the Shangri-la in the bus terminal Zhongdian, Yunnan Province was happy to tell me on several occasions, both in Chinese and in English, that yes, foreigners can now travel across the east of the Tibet Autonomous Region in Lhasa… land without permits! I could not believe what I heard, but rather than fall into the rapture, I more I have to take advantage of the new policy or continue as scheduled on my already-paid, the government has authorized a week tour across Kham In Lhasa. Ultimately, it would have been ridiculous for me not to choose the latter.

The decade-old Land Cruiser was surprisingly good condition, having raced 99 times across Tibet. We have implemented across northern Yunnan to the cliff Feilaisi, we find a staggering 4000 meters above sea level and nauseously breathtaking to spend the night at the roadside site Pilgrimage of chortens laundered in sun, wind-tattered prayer flags and a view of Mingyong Glacier.
